Marcelo Maia - Jazz Portraits

Writting with light, looking at the absurd to understand reality...

All That JAZZ
Like photography, music can transcend geographic and language barriers.

Blossom Dearie was my friend, we met at the Ballroom in 93 with Leny Andrade. I Photographed her publicity pictures and the covers for her last 3 CDs . She was performing at Danny's Skylight room on January 1999, when we talked about shooting a video of the show, which we would use on her website.. then, we didn't have Youtube. I shot 6 sets of her show . Since it was a new technology, we couldn't even watch the tapes after returning the $3k camera we rented for the shooting, so I put the tapes away. Pass 10 years, while organizing a drawer, I found the tapes again and since then have been uploading a few songs to Youtube. I loved Blossom very much and miss her terribly. She was a sophisticated lady with a sharp intellect and the sensibility she expressed in her music, captivated people all over. Blossom passed away on February 7, 1999.. by the time I found the tapes.

Here is one of my favorite songs by Blossom. You can watch more on my Youtube Channel PhotographerNYC
